I am so excited to be part of the blog tour for THIS LOVE by Anna Bloom! I know once I read the synopsis that I would fall for this book, and I sure did! It was just the book I needed to start to pull me out of a reading slump and I can’t wait to go back and re-read all of my favorite parts and quotes.

This Love 2This Love Synopsis:

Amber’s always planned to leave her overbearing mother and their stifling small town behind as soon as she graduates. That is until her car breaks down outside Bale and Son’s mechanics and she meets Freddy Bale. A boy who’d rather live in the moment than make a five-year-plan.

Ignoring her friends’ warnings, Amber puts all dreams for her perfect future on hold, and dives into the romance heart first. On their last day of school, however, Freddy decides to call off their relationship, and Amber does the only thing she can think of: Run away and never look back. Just like she’d always planned.

Ten years pass before Amber sets foot in town again, only returning to look after her ailing mother. While Freddy wants to make amends, Amber is confronted with her own wrong choices from ten years ago. Choices that could change the lives of everyone she’s ever loved.

When first love is given a second chance and the secrets of the past come hurtling into the present, will Amber and Freddy be able to lay their mistakes to rest and make this love the strongest one of all?

My review: As I said earlier, I knew that once I read the synopsis I would love this book. And I did. It started off in such a way that left me speechless because I have been there – someone taking care of a sick parent. I’ve been there – I know how hard it can be.

When Amber and Freddy fell in love, they fell hard and they fell fast. When their relationship ended? It crumbled to pieces in a way that I’m sure Amber felt was nearly impossible to ever put back together – and she ran. She left.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had that same thought – to run, to leave, to leave everything behind because I couldn’t deal with it all. It can be such a strong yet scary feeling, and I can’t imagine how Amber felt when she did leave. It had to be a mix of overwhelming emotions.

When she returned home to care for her mom – the unexpected happens – her and Freddy are reunited by chance and this sets them on the path of second chances, the chance to open up and spill everything – something that could change everything for everyone, forgiveness and love.

I can tell you that this book will suck you, give you a lot of feels and you won’t want to put it down. I had a hard time putting it down just to get to work … a beautiful story about first loves, heartbreak and forgiveness. Add this one to your to be read list! You won’t wanna miss it!

ALL PLAYED OUT Bucket List Tour – 5 Crazy Things You Should Do By 30!

May 24, 2015 Katie A Blog Tour, Giveaway 0 Comments

APO-may-24

I am so excited to be a part of this tour for ALL PLAYED OUT – In so many ways I could relate to Nell. I was never really active on campus through high school and college. High school was just a mess for me, but in college – I went to classes, I did my work and I came home. I kept to myself for the most part, and still do as I finish up my degree. So when the chance came up to make my own bucket list? I jumped for it!

Today I’m featuring “5 Crazy Things to do By 30”.

I turned 30 in October and honestly, haven’t done anything too crazy so this was fun and challenging to think of!

1. Go on an epic road trip with friends – I did this just a couple months ago with my girlfriend a couple of her friends. They picked me up in Nashville at the airport and we drove all night long through Tennessee and all of Alabama until we got to Florida and the beach. So many memories were made and it was a blast.

2. Splurge on an expensive, nice meal for yourself, just because! I haven’t done this, but I think it’s something nice to do for yourself. Go somewhere you usually couldn’t go, save up the money and indulge. We all work hard, so why not? Treat yourself!

3. Follow your favorite band/singer on tour – In my late teenage years, I did this for a couple years with one of my then favorite singers. In fact, my brother, best friend and youth leader all drove several hours to see him play at a large festival one summer. I got to know him and the band pretty well, but after a couple years – things changed and I haven’t been to a show of his in several years. It was fun while it happened, a blast to see the surprise on their faces when we showed up!

4. Drive/fly to another state or city to see your favorite author – I have done this! It was so much fun and something I want to do again. It brought me so much joy to see the surprise on her face when I showed up for the launch and to spend time celebrating. I’d love to go to an out of state event or conference one day, but with money tight – I have to stick to local (or semi-local) events. Still, mini road trips, favorite authors, bookstores… what more could you want?!

5. Explore another country – I haven’t done this, but have always wanted to go to England, Ireland and Scotland and just explore and take in all the beauty. Now with my brother moving to London this fall, it seems more and more likely that in the next three years, I’ll be able to do just that! It’ll be a dream come true and definitely out of my comfort zone as I’ll leave the country for the first time, fly overseas and find myself in an entirely new country to explore!

About ALL PLAYED OUT:

First person in her family to go to college? CHECK.
Straight A’s? CHECK.
On track to graduate early? CHECK.
Social life? …..yeah, about that….

With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay… Scratch that. She knows she hasn’t had the full college experience).

So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a “to do” list of normal college activities.

Item #1? Hook up with a jock.

Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it’s impossible to get hurt… again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it.

Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she’s never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he’s willing to take the chance when it’s more than just a game.

Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.

BOOK BLURB:

The truth won’t always set you free.

Less than a year ago, Neely Ambrose’s biggest worry was having the freedom to follow a path that wasn’t chosen for her.

Less than a year ago, she believed she could trust the Elders who said they had everyone’s best interest at heart and who said they were keeping them safe from the outside.

Sixty days ago, she discovered what they had planned for everyone she loved—and that all of it centered around her.
Now she’s on the run through a dangerous wasteland full of killing machines, secret organizations, and people who want to sell her back to the Elders for their own safety. The whole world outside the Compound is living proof that everything in Neely’s life was a lie manufactured by the Elders, which may even include the boy she loves.

All Neely wants is the truth, but each new piece of it drives her further from what she thought she knew. With only forty days until everyone she loves falls under the Elders’ mind control, Neely must decipher who to trust, what questions to ask, and how to get one step ahead of the Elders, who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

My Review:

I gave this book a rating of: ★★★★

I knew the moment I read about this book that I had to have it in my hands. Many of you know how much I love dystopia, and this did not let me down! I was so excited to dive back into a young adult this genre and novel in particular, and to explore new characters and read their stories.

Let me tell you – this book kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. I was immediately drawn in and did not want to put this book down! The details were amazing, helping me to really visualize everything that was going on and it only drew me into the story further.

I loved how it was written – you’ll see the “deadline” chapters and the “before” chapters so you are getting two stories and they are slowly leading you to find out what happened. Neely is absolutely amazing – she is strong, and although she doesn’t want to do what she may face – she knows that in order to keep herself and loved ones safe, she will have to do just that. I think we can all relate in some way that we’ve experienced a time where we have to do something we don’t want to do, but know it must be done.

Neely is just… I can’t even put it into words how much I loved her character. She is so incredibly strong despite everything going on around her, everything she has to face and how brave she is. She is stubborn and will do whatever it takes to protect and care for her loved ones.

The romance in this book is written well and we can see how Neely is torn – something familiar, yet she is on the verge of discovering something new and wants to explore that aspect. It’s believable and something many readers may be able to relate to! I loved how Neely had very different and strong relationships with both Thorne and Xenith – something we all have with those in our lives. We each have different relationships with the different people we care about and I love how this was written into the story.

I cannot wait to read more of this series and jump back into the story! I know I’ll be on the edge of my seat, dreading the moment I have to put it down because the story is so engaging. If you want a story that will leave you on the edge of your seat, a brave and amazing main character – this is for you! I can’t wait for you to read it!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Synopsis:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That’s what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn’t always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It’s obliterated.

Dallas doesn’t know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn’t know that Dallas is his new coach’s daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel.

My Review:

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I gave this book a rating of: ★★★★★

ALL LINED UP was the book to bring me out of my reading slump that seemed to drag on forever. I was instantly hooked from page one and didn’t want to stop reading. I took my kindle with me to work one night and once I had the kids in bed and asleep, I curled up on the couch and started reading.

I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t put it down, I didn’t want to put it down. Coming from someone who is really not that into sports and who doesn’t know much about football? I was sucked in immediately. I feel for the characters, I felt like I was right there with them on their journey together. I laughed, I cried, I swooned.

There was one quote from the story that I absolutely loved and hit close to home for me.

“I’ve found who pulls me together. You’re the only thing that makes me feel better when I’m tired or frustrated. You’re the thing that quiets all my worries and doubts and fears.”

To say that this quote hit me hard is an understatement, I read it and promptly burst into tears on the couch at work. Why? It’s everything I feel when it comes to my girlfriend. We’ve been together close to two years – she’s the one who puts me back together when I crumble, she is the one who calms me down on those bad days. To see a quote that sums up how I feel about my girl and our relationship brought tears to my eyes and made me realize even more how lucky I am to have her.

It’s been a week since I finished reading and I am still flailing over this book. I am telling everyone I can to buy it, read it and then tell me all about it while they read it. I cannot wait for more out of this series and to see where everyone is lead through the series!

If you’re looking for a book full of fun, great characters you will fall in love with, a pull-me-out-of-a-slump read and a read that will make you laugh, tug at your heart and swoon? ALL LINED UP is one you’ll want to read over and over again. I promise.

Summer Recap + Giveaway

September 17, 2013 Katie A Giveaway 0 Comments

DSC_0035

View from my breakfast on the beach, July 2013.

What a crazy summer!

Yet, it was the best summer of my life.

JUNE: Mostly worked, but started reading my growing stack of books for the summer. Lots of time at the pool, with friends and family and relaxing. It was weird not to have any homework, but I quickly settled into my summer routine and looked forward to the next month. Life kept me busy, work kept me busy but whatever was thrown at me was handled quickly. I made some rough choices in terms of friendships, but they needed to be made.

JULY: Best month ever. July was the month I finally had my girl here. It was the best week of my life. I’m not just saying that. Having her here with me for a week solidified everything – we fell in love, we made future plans and I have never been happier in my life. We got to take a vacation together and just enjoy each other. Even before she left, we had made plans for our next visit. I read as much as I could, and the stack of books kept growing. I got my drivers permit in July, super exciting!

AUGUST: Back to work, back to school. What a whirlwind month. With an emergency dental appointment or two that ended up working out just fine, settling into a new school routine and balancing work – it was hectic. I also realized in the midst of all this chaos that I really did miss blogging and started to really make the effort to blog at least a couple times a month. I went book shopping quite a bit despite being in a reading slump and found two books to pull me out of it.

SEPTEMBER: Summer is pretty much over. I’ve had my first exam since returning to school for the fall semester, made winter and spring vacation plans with my girlfriend and have struggled to get into a routine so I’m not exhausted anymore. I’m looking forward to reading some more books once I’m fully settled and planning/celebrating my birthday next month.

With summer over – I’ll call it my summer of books – there were books everywhere. I quickly ran out of room for all of the books I bought this summer and I’m constantly rearranging them, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This summer also meant the relaunch of my blog and I thought to celebrate what a great summer I had I’d do my first giveaway… Are you ready?

One lucky winner (US only this time, but the next will be international!) will receive CITY OF BONES and CITY OF ASHES in paperback!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I hope everyone had a great summer! What was your favorite part of the summer? What was your favorite book (or books) that you read?
